Exploration in Mt Suckling region, Central & Northern Provinces

Co-founder of PPM with focus on platinum group element exploration. Fieldwork in Northern, Morobe, Central, New Ireland and West Sepik Provinces. Delineation and drilling of unique low temperature epithermal PGE mineralisation in the Doriri prospect in the Ada'u Valley (Northern Province) and the discovery of stratiform Pt-Pd-Au mineralisation hosted in layered mafic rocks the Waria Valley (Morobe Province).

Management of exploration in NGG/Vangold Resources Ltd portfolio of 12 tenements throughout PNG (West Sepik, Enga, Milne Bay, West New Britain, East New Britain & New Provinces). Drill intersections of 72 m @ 1.8 g/t Au at Mt Penck (WNBP) and 98 m @ 0.94 g/t Au (Feni Islands). Trench result of 15 m @ 16.01 g/t Au (Mt Nakru)

Research on Papua New Guinean tectonics and palaeontology. Publication of 10 research papers during this period.

Fieldwork and supervision and training of staff at Weioko and Imwauna vein gold projects, Normanby Island (Milne Bay Province), Mt Nakru and Kulu/Simuku porphyry projects (West New Britain Province), Mt Sinivit (East New Britain) and Feni Islands (New Ireland Province). Discovery of visible gold at the Imwauna vein prospect and responsible for the recognition and mapping of the veins as an anastomosing network forming a long vein system of several kms length. This was a breakthrough in understanding the mineralisation.

Wild Dog vein pre-feasibility and feasibility studies and stakeholder negotiations for mining of the oxide resource. Resource and reserve evaluations and calculations. Environmental and socio-economic studies. Negotiation of compensation and royalty agreements with local communities and Provincial and National governments. Mining Lease granted in February 1996.

Consultant and contracting geologist for clients including Ok Tedi Mining Ltd, BHP Minerals, Niugini Mining Ltd & Highlands Gold Ltd. Gold exploration around the Ok Tedi mine (the first such exploration) & Frieda-Nena deposits regional exploration. Discovery (with Wanu Tamu) of the Townsville gold-copper prospect north of Mt Fubilan (Ok Tedi). Discovery of the Skairaisa copper-gold prospect (with John Kirakar) near the Frieda-Nena Complex. Volcanological mapping and subdivision of the gold-bearing Okiduse Volcanics on the Woodlark Goldfield, recognising the role of lithological controls on mineralisation. Discovery of the Metawarei near-surface gold deposits (with Sapona Paliu) on Manus Island.

Exploration projects in East and West New Britain and New Ireland Provinces. Responsible for major programme of resource delineation at the Mt Sinivit (Wild Dog) project, with 4 drill rigs in operation. Construction of a 12.5 km all weather road linking the project (at 1,000 m altitude) with the existing road network. Supervision of exploration at the Mt Nakru porphyry, Sikut River and Feni Islands

Fieldwork in New Ireland, West New Britain, East New Britain, Manus and Western Provinces. Regional stream sediment sampling in most of these areas. Discovered the Mt Nakru porphyry prospect (1984), the Wild Dog Au-Ag-Te vein system (July 1983) and the Sikut River Au-Cu-Hg deposits (1982). Exploration drilling of the Wild Dog vein and surrounding vein systems during 1985-1986.

Exploration geologist based in South East District and involved in tin and base metals exploration in the LFB and Tasmania. Spent entire 1977 field season seconded to the Ashton Diamond Project in WA. In January-March 1978 regional stream sediment sampling of PA 431-Aseki (Morobe Province) with Chip Nichols, John Zerwick and Phil Rosengren. Our work resulted in the discovery of the Wafi gold prospect (Lindley & Zerwick) and the Wamum porphyry copper-gold prospect (Nichols & Lindley). Please refer to first Annual Report on PA-431.
