EMI is a network of Christian design professionals who develop people, design structures, and construct facilities which serve communities and the Church. Our vision is to see people restored by God and the world restored through design.As the lead structural engineer and a project leader for the Southeast Asia office, I lead diverse and multidisciplinary teams of design professionals to provide engineering to churches, orphanages, NGOs and rural communities. We use our professional skills to to empower those groups to do more of what they do best -- loving people like Jesus did.• Managed multi-year projects as large as $2.5MM from initial programming and conceptual design through construction and commissioning.• Led multi-disciplinary teams of 3-10 designers to provide engineering & architectural design of schools, churches, hospitals, children’s homes, and centers for NGOs & charitable organizations.• Designed almost 50 structures across SE Asia. Structures included multistory RC moment frame buildings, long-span gymnasium and auditorium roofs, and a 8m cantilever retaining wall in remote high-seismic zone.

• Oversee all the technical and design work originating from our team of 12-18 design professionals in the Cambodia office. Staff project teams according to availability, skillsets and project needs.• Develop and implement best practice standards, training, and resources (including the EMI Structural Design Guide and Intro to Project Management course). Mentor and train young staff.• Project development, including lead generation, proposal writing and fee/schedule estimation.

- Work with contractors to develop bridge construction and dismantling plans.- Design and analyze temporary structures for construction applications.- Design and analyze construction sequences during bridge erection or demolition.- Analyze rebar cage or curtain stability, and design bracing as needed.- Design and analyze crane pick sequences for a variety of loads and structures.- Design rigging and below-the-hook lifting devices.- Analyze equipment and construction loading on existing or partially complete structures.- Analyze site conditions, and design crane mats or geosynthetic crane pads as required.- Perform site visits and inspections to develop or confirm design assumptions.- Familiar with AASHTO LRFD BDS, AASHTO MBE, AASHTO 17th Ed, AISC 13th/14th, ACI 318-08/318-11/318-14, NDS 2005, ASCE 7-05/7-10, ASCE 37-02, ASCE Rebar Cage Construction & Safety, ACI 347-04, PCI Girder Stability, ASME BTH-1, CalTrans Bridge Design Guide, California Falsework Manual, NAVFAC Geotechnical Manuals, selected OSHA regulations.- California OES Safety Assessment Program (disaster response) trained evaluator.

-Designed and analyzed tower crane foundations, formwork and falsework systems, temporary bracing, critical lifts, demolition sequences, and other miscellaneous temporary structures and construction devices.- Performed site visits and inspections to confirm design assumptions and conformance.-Acted as point of contact for tasks with a variety of clients on a dozen projects spanning North America.- Familiar with ACI 318-08/318-11, AISC 13th/14th, NDS 2005, ASCE 7-05/7-10, ASCE 37-02, ACI 347-04, APA, ASME BTH-1, CSA 086, CSA S269, OSHA (construction devices), WorkSafe BC.

- Design structures and foundations in steel, concrete, and timber for high-voltage transmission lines and substations.- Analyze complex structural and foundations problems in a construction support role, such as the aeolian vibration of a slender non-symmetrically guyed T-line structure, and the design of a timber "bog shoe" foundation to carry a 100k axial load in poor soil.- Review and improve design processes for updated design codes, increased calculation transparency, increased automation of routine tasks, and reduced user input error.- To date, I have worked on 23 substation projects between 345 and 35kV, and 4 transmission line projects as large as the 330-mile 345kV double circuit CREZ line from Scurry to Navarro.- Familiar with ASCE 113, ASCE 48-05, NESC 2007 and 2012, and the RUS guides for substation and transmission line design.

-Research performed under Dr. Panos Kiousis, Dr. D.V. Griffiths- Developed 3D analysis techniques to engineer driven pile stabilization of mountainous roadway embankments for CDOT.- Analysis verified and calibrated against Finite Element Analysis using LS-Dyna. Field validation pending.- Results published as "Analysis of Driven Pile Reinforcement for Three-Dimensional Slope Stability Problems" (CSM May 2012).

-Managed teams of circulation desk workers in daily operations and special projects.-Accomplished projects (database creation, collection management) ahead of expected schedule.

Structural Engineering-Designed two bridges (one rehab, one replacement superstructure) for Las Animas County. -Performed load rating and overload analysis of modern and antiquated bridges using LFR and LRFR-Used AASHTO LFD, AASHTO LRFD and AREMA (railroad) codes, NBI Sufficiency Rating.-Designed other elements in concrete, steel, and timber, including retaining walls and bridge rails.Municipal Engineering-Designed solutions for roadway rehabilitation, site development and drainage applications.-Designed and specified underground stormwater detention units and porous asphalt drainage system. Refined previous design to reduce materials by 60% and cost by more than $10k.-Developed a tool for refined cost estimation of roadway projects-Created and updated project plans and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009

-Managed a team of 20 freelance writers and photographers. -Increased content and cut turnaround time in half to support acceleration of publication schedule.-Handled customer service and subscription issues.-Over 1000 individual subscribers, also distributed through Barnes and Noble, Borders Books, Waldenbooks, etc.

-Recognized for superior performance on all employee evaluations.

-Increased sales and profit, always exceeding figures from corresponding month of previous year.-Reduced employee turnover.

-Designed autonomously navigating rover, tested in the Great Sand Dunes to simulate Mars.-Led the implementation of all electronics, including sensors, motors, and processing units.-Composed the team report, presented at the 2007 Colorado Space Grant Consortium Symposium. Report was published by the American Society for Engineering Education and received the award for “Best Paper for the Rocky Mountain Section, 2008”.
