Misael is a New York based filmmaker whose primary work is comprised of Documentaries and Independent film projects relating to the urban city experience. He began his career while enrolled at New York University’s Film Program where he graduated with a focus on Cinematography and Producing. He joined the Columbia University Graduate Film program in 1995, where he was Director of Instruction & Cinematography program coordinator for 15 years. Currently he is full-time Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, where he teaches Film Production at the undergraduate Film/New Media program. He works as a professional Director of Photography and Producer on a variety of projects ranging from television documentaries and special programming, Short Films, Music Videos, and corporate projects. He is the Founder and Director of the International Film Institute of New York founded in 1998 offering short term intensive filmmaking workshops in New York, California, and Utah for the past 21 years. In addition, he teaches film production at YouTube Studios, produces online courses for professional filmmakers, and works as a freelance producer at corporate institutions in New York City.

Director - Film ProgramWasatch Academy Oct 2010 - Mar 2012Wasatch Academy is a spectacular Boarding school for High School students in Utah. In their efforts to provide their students with more experience in the arts they contacted me to develop and create a filmmaking program at their campus. We started with an idea that blossomed into a fully funded program complete with a full inventory of technology. As a consultant at the Academy I provided the school with recommendations on everything from technology through the development of a full curriculum. Once budgets were approved I personally handled the quoting, ordering, and receiving of all equipment including set up and ensuring the proper training to their student body. Once all technology was in place I provided my full curriculum in the development of classes for the school including the hiring of staff and Faculty. As on going Director of the program I provided all faculty, administration, and support for the duration of all the courses. Alongside their academic year program we also conducted a very successful Summer filmmaking experience. -
