CurrentI serve clients across the country and focus on high-value, high-profile litigation in federal and state courts throughout the country, largely involving complex technological and/or regulatory issues.Although I primarily focus on trial court litigation, I have considerable appellate experience, including arguing before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2020, and on matters before the U.S. Supreme Court. I have also handled cases before state and federal administrative agencies, as well as numerous arbitrations and mediations.I am currently lead counsel for three certified plaintiffs’ classes totaling at least 220,000 members in what may be the largest-ever IoT product liability action. The class asserts claims that various cars and trucks suffer from a series of cybersecurity defects that render the vehicles susceptible to attacks allowing hackers to remotely control the vehicles’ operational and safety systems, including acceleration, braking, steering, and ignition. Claims include breach of warranty and violations of state consumer protection statutes. In late 2017 I co-first chaired a 4-week, $230 million trial, defending a medium-sized college against consumer protection and lending claims.I currently represent a large consumer products company in multiple putative nationwide class actions relating to several products, asserting claims including breach of consumer protection statutes, breach of express and implied warranty, unjust enrichment, and breach of contract.I am a regular speaker and have appeared on national stages such as the Black Hat Conference in 2018. I have also been sought by national media for commentary on legal liability and the Internet of Things (IoT).
