I was the lead embedded systems engineer in a multi discipline R&D team, consisting of both hardware and software engineers. As the lead engineer for the company’s embedded platforms, I was involved in the entire lifecycle of product development, from requirements capture to analysis, design, implementation and testing of the final product. My work focused on the development of reliable low power, real time systems for Passenger Information applications, Ticket Validation and Fare Collection Systems. I was involved in both hardware and software design for products that featured M2M communications, LCD screens, LED panels, photovoltaic operation, telematics, MIFARE/NFC contactless cards and integration with existing infrastructures. My duties also included supervising and mentoring junior engineers, evaluating new technologies for use in new designs as well as providing customer support.

My role in the Integration & Testing (I&T) department focused on designing and documenting test procedures for testing the implementation of Tactical Data Links (Link-11/B, Link-16, ATDL-1, HNDL/HCDL), conducting formal Acceptance Tests (Factory) and designing/programming testing tools in C/C++ to automate the testing processes. This involved an excellent understanding of the relevant TDL standards (STANAG5511, STANAG5516, STANAG7023) and applying critical thinking on how to effectively test and verify the operation of the integrated system in a practical and timely manner.I was also the Lead Test Engineer for ISI’s Portable Reconnaissance Imaging Screening System, a hardware and software enabled platform in charge of processing and screening reconnaissance images captured by military aircraft.

As a freelance contractor I have been involved in the development of Semtech Ltd’s SX866x Capacitive Touch Controller line of products. I was responsible for designing and integrating features into the SX8660 Capacitive Touch Controller Firmware. My work included analysis of requirements, design, implementation, testing and documentation. I have also designed the software algorithm for the SX8664 Capacitive Wheel and Slider Controller which implements a capacitive touch wheel similar to that used on many consumer products. A big part of my responsibilities also focused on providing support for Semtech Ltd’s prime customers. This involved travelling on a very short notice in order to provide support on the customer’s premises.

As part of a small software team, our work focused on the development of ToPSync®, a IEEE1588 Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) single-chip solution responsible for providing frequency and phase synchronisation over IP networks. Typical applications include synchronisation of cellular basestations.As a software design engineer I was responsible for the development and maintenance of the product’s Bootstrap, the customer API, the customer GUI and testing some parts of the product’s clock alignment algorithm. I have also been responsible for designing new features into the product and developing low level drivers for hardware peripherals.

As a software engineer I was part of a medium-sized team in charge of developing and maintaining a hardware-enabled Media Gateway platform for VoIP applications. Our main product, known as FACT Media Gateway, was targeted to telecoms carriers that were looking to reduce time-to-market by developing their own business level applications on top of our certified hardware and easy-to-use software API. The platform was designed to bridge high density VoIP networks (incl. signalling) with legacy PSTN networks using various I/O interfaces, like Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, H.110 and DS3/DS1 trunks.Working on a large code base, my responsibilities included adding features and fixing problems for the upcoming releases, developing and integrating device drivers and maintaining the management interfaces with an emphasis on SNMP. I have also spent time enhancing the testing and verification automated framework that tested the nightly builds and official releases.
