Awarded $1000 of funding to conduct research for Child Policy Capstone Project. The funding will be used to compensate the participants I interview. I am conducting research on Parental Involvement and Child Policy (specifically examining the importance of parental involvement for children with autism spectrum disorder in the successful implementation of child policies). This research will be presented at School Research Partnership Dinner through Duke Center for Child and Family Policy at the Sanford School of Public Policy.

Using monosynaptic viral tracing combined with single-cell genomics to understand how neuronal circuits are affected in genetic mouse models of autism spectrum disorder. Duties include working in neurobiology wet lab using techniques such as pipetting, plasmid cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, RNA sequencing, and more.I am currently doing a senior thesis titled: Generation of Nuclear-Localized Rabies Virus for Dissection of Adult Cortical Circuits. The first aim is to engineer a rabies virus variant that localizes its genomic information to the nucleus. The second aim is to amplify genome information recovery rates within single nucleotide sequences. The overarching goal is to enable high-throughput sequencing to help investigate comprehensive brain circuits, allowing us to further study the complex circuits of our brains.

Defining Movement is Duke’s premier multicultural dance group. It is a diverse dance organization that is founded on the pillars of service and multiculturalism. DefMo incorporates a wide variety of dance styles and cultural roots to encourage dialogue about stereotypes in today’s society.As Publicity Chair, I am responsible for maintaining Defining Movement’s brand on campus, getting people to come to shows and events, and looking for ways to expand our reach on campus. This includes jobs such as moderating DefMo’s social media accounts and creating merchandise for the team.

Working under the mentorship of Dr. Jacqueline Flowers and Dr. Geraldine Dawson in the “Sense to Know” study. My duties include (but are not limited to) data management and data analysis including the app data and home videos on the Sense to Know study. I have access to participant data, including PHI, and participant videos that include image/likeness and voice. I also manage data in REDCap and attend research team meetings weekly, including an individual meeting with Dr. Flowers and other students/research assistants.

Member of the research team: Decoded Neurofeedback Toward Bias and Racism Mitigation. My team and I decode neural correlates of bias in individuals’ brains and combine that with neurofeedback to modulate such neural representation. My role on the team includes locating potential deciding brain areas (e.g. amygdala, insula) and their roles in regulating bias.
