Profile bio

About Imogen Lees

I'm a writer, editor and copywriter. I spent my pre-motherhood career in print media, including many happy years writing about telly for the Standard and as chief sub on trade and contract mags. I completed a decade with Like the Wind magazine, subbing and writing on the first 41 issues of this beautiful indie running mag. I'm also incredibly proud to have been at the heart of the first five issues of parkrun magazine.Writing/editing and copywriting may of course be categorised as different disciplines but they revolve around the same core skills: clarity, tone of voice and attention to detail. Whether I'm subbing a piece about running in the Yorkshire Dales or interviewing a business-owner about their vision, I endeavour to maintain the voice and viewpoint of the client or writer while also creating copy that attracts attention.

Listed skills include Writing, Feature Writing, Copy Editing, Editing, and 17 others.

Director

Peapod Pre-School

Voluntary rolePeapod Pre-School looks after around 100 pre-school children (aged two-four) in South Norwich. The directors of this not-for-profit company work as a team. Our role is to support, guide and oversee the management and staff team (around 20 people). We ensure pre-school is running to the best of its ability and for the benefit of the community as whole. In my time on the board we have assisted in a move to new premises – and the legal and logistical negotiations involved. We have dealt with significant high-level HR functions, including recruitment of new management, changes in management structure and dealing with poor performance. We have provided support for Ofsted inspections and ensured that requirements are met. We also look at long-term planning, such as considering an application for charitable status. The board oversees the finances: forecasting and budgeting and complying with all regulations. We also deal with complaints.I held the position of company secretary for three years, ensuring the Companies House and similar administration were all in order. I have stepped away from this role but remain on the board in an advisory capacity. My involvement with pre-school has taught me patience, diplomacy and the skill of focusing on improving both the pre-school and the happiness and skills of those who work there. Furthermore I have gained significant HR knowledge and learned a lot about long-term commercial tenancy negotiations, gaining charitable status and generally overseeing a large organisation with a turnover in excess of £180k.
