Hi my name is Imogen, I am 21 years old and a third year student at Coventry University doing BSc Accountancy. I have lived in the West Midlands all my life, and I love the diversity of culture you can find in all areas of the West Midlands. I chose to go to Coventry University because not only did my mum go there but it was a local university for me as I wished to commute from home since having my now 3 year old daughter. She is my greatest inspiration and motivation, I want to show her that being a young mum does not stop you from going to university, get a degree and a good job.As a young mother my skill set ranges from multitasking and dedication to compassion and kindness towards others. I work well on my own and in a team, and can benefit from group discussions on topics to get different perspectives. I have always been very methodical and enjoy making my work very neat and organised, which are skills required to be a good accountant. Growing up I found that I preferred maths over English so my mathematical skills are quite high having done maths and further maths GCSE and most of a further maths A-level during lockdown before finishing my A-levels doing maths, biology and chemistry. In addition, doing all 6 exams that my sixth form had created as the true A-levels were cancelled, in one week whilst eight months pregnant. My time at sixth form was challenging as for the most part we were online due to the pandemic. This allowed me to improve my skills at remote learning, and teaching myself a lot of the work. This became even more of a challenge when I became pregnant, in a way it was easier at first being able to stay at home and learn but in the later months when we went back to school it became more difficult. Thankfully due to the pandemic the official exams were cancelled but my school was doing school made exams that contained 66% of each subject. My school was very accommodating to me and were very supporting of me still doing my exams just a bit earlier than everyone else so I was not in any risk of going into labour during the exams. In the end I got 3Cs in biology, chemistry and maths.I look forward to more of my BSc accountancy course and I am interested in broadening my knowledge in the world of accounting and finance. While my interest in doing accounting is a new interest I believe it is very well suited to my skills and strengths, plus so far i have very much enjoyed the course and achieved high results in the examinations.
