I taught senior military and government professionals who came to the college to get a Master's degree in Strategic Studies. In addition to core courses on Strategy and Instrumenst of Statecraft and Global Geopolitics, I teach elective on Economics and Global Security and on India and Pakistan. My research foucs is on China, East Asia and South Asia. In particular I am interested in issues of comparative economics development, political economy,governnace, national security and nation building after conflicts. I was an Associate Professor of economics at Ohio State University, before joining the World Bank in 1976 My extensive career in the World Bank, where I worked from 1975-1998 (24 years) included many assignments in operational and research departments. I was the Lead Economist for Transition Economies where I was adviser on transitions in Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asian Republics, the Baltics, East Asia and China; Principal Economist for Industry, Trade, Energy and Finance Operations in China and Senior Economist for Industrial Development and Finance operations in South Asia. I managed economic studies to provide advice and assistance in undertaking major policy reforms to back an annual portfolio of over $3 billion each, in China and India. I was a Senior Economist in the Office of the Regional Vice President for Eastern Africa where I provided advice in 13 East African countries. I was a member of the team that produced the first World Bank Development Report (1978) and its World Bank Indicators, under the guidance of the World Bank’s President Mr. McNamara. I have published extensively with over 40 articles in professional journals and have written and edited over a dozen books.I was a Senior Associate at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University during 2009-2010. I am currently working on a book “Demography, Development and Governance: The Political Economy in India and Pakistan” which has been accepted for publication by I.B.Taurus (London).
