Also, proprietary digital models don't work for major assets without a significant long-term commitment and plan for the governance of the data associated with the digital model. Such information can easily become outdated, untrustworthy, or un-reliable. The governance needs to plan for the decommissioning of a digital model, its archiving, storage, accessibility and future usability when technology has moved on. Such strategic thinking may need to outlast the project design, manufacturing, operation and product support phases so that this asset could be re-used in the future with the minimal amount of re-engineering. How do we handle the safety & security of such information within a digital twin & should there be access rights or privileges built in? Should outdated models be stored in their entirety, or split to protect certain key information or contexts? We may need vendor agnostic representations of these models - such that the information is accessible over time.
