Creating a bespoke library for Alderbrook School's needs, from the ground up.Organising and managing the library, ensuring its effective use by classes, groups, and individuals.Managing the annual library budget.Selecting, acquiring, organising, and promoting library resources.Ensuring equality of access for all, with particular focus on Dyslexia-friendly texts and an Autism-friendly environment.Recruiting, supervising, training, and rewarding student librarians.Monitoring and evaluating the use of the library, especially through ‘Reading Cloud’. Supervising pupils using the library and maintaining a welcoming, supportive atmosphere conducive to positive learning experiences.Supporting and advising staff and pupils in the selection resources to support their curricular and leisure needs.Promoting reading and the enjoyment of reading in all its forms.Publicising the services provided by the Library to the whole school including library lessons, book-boxes, afterschool clubs and our school’s reading project ‘Uniquely Portable Magic’.Developing links with local libraries.Providing support to teaching staff in the creation of classroom resources and managing all reprographics requests in an efficient system.Lead planning, organising and delivery of resources and activities for literary events (such as World Book Day).Delivery of the reading programme ‘Lexonik’ in groups of 4 students, with up to 80 students a year.Creating monthly competitions and displays surrounding a chosen theme to promote library engagement and research skills.Decorating the library according to the library’s theme of the month.

- Organising and managing the daily running of three libraries, including supervision and execution of routine duties including issuing and recovering stock across the three libraries.- Selecting, acquiring, organising, promoting and maintaining resources to cover the age, ability and curriculum range of the school. Disseminating as appropriate. - Acting as a member of the ‘Reading Team’ and supporting in the delivery and development of literacy across the school by setting up reading events to raise the profile of reading e.g., World Book Day, World Poetry Day, Monthly Library competitions, National Storytelling Week etc.- Developing cross-curricular reading and reading for pleasure. - Supporting the management of the library budget, including funds allocated for purchase of library materials, equipment, furniture and the development of information services and independent learning from school funds and other sources.- Responsibility for maintaining and managing the libraries as a tidy, accessible and vibrant resource centre which reflects the ethos of the schools.- Using the school newsletters, social media platforms and websites to inform parents and staff of library events.- Engaging EYRS with active performance, singing and storytelling.- Improving school engagement with both classic texts and newly released books (special focus on Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and new BAME authors).- I was also required to answer many of the duties of a teacher’s assistant in addition to my contracted duties.
