he overarching goal of the Sustainable Tourism Partnership is to advocate for sustainable tourism practices by raising awareness and educating stakeholders, citizens, and policymakers about both its benefits and challenges. It aims to capitalize on the economic, social, and environmental opportunities presented by sustainable tourism to foster a balanced and resilient recovery, promote inclusivity, and drive innovation.Moreover, it pays specific attention to supporting cities in implementing sustainable tourism practices and driving positive change at both local and EU levels. It identifies and tackles urban issues by fostering collaborative processes of co-creation and co-implementation among Member States, regions, cities, the European Institutions, and other stakeholders. The Action Plan focuses on streamlining access to EU funding, promoting combined financing (Better Funding), enhancing the knowledge base on urban issues, and facilitating the exchange of best practices (Better Knowledge).The Sustainable Tourism Partnership is composed of 29 members, including 9 cities, 3 regions, and one national authority. It was approved in October 2022, started its work in December of the same year, and is expected to implement its work by the end of 2025. To develop its Action Plan, the Partnership used an Ex-Ante Assessment study as a foundation, structured its work under four Working Groups (WGs) focused on Environment, Development (2 WGs), and Unbalanced Growth, and organized regular management and content meetings. All UAEU Partnerships aim to contribute to Better Knowledge, Better Funding, and Better Regulation by applying multilevel and multi-stakeholder cooperation processes at the EU level.

Member of DMOs and Ecosystem Board. This board is composed by umbrella organisations, networks and hubs, supporting D3HUB in extending the destination ecosystem and multiplying the beneficiaries and reach out of the competence centre. The Destinations’ committee/advisory board has two specific objectives:Engage DMOs from the three levels of governance – national-regional-local – and SMES of the tourism value chain throughout Europe (geographically), to test the competence centre support scheme, bringing their data needs, experimenting with data, reporting on results against expectations, report on decisions/policy taken thanks to data, suggestions for improvement, assess if a stronger involvement in the future is an option to become users of the centre so as to guarantee its continuity.Provide guidance throughout different work packages: Call specifications, selection criteria, campaign for recruitment, selection process (levels of destinations in data management), evaluation of the testing phase, business model, service portfolio, etc.

WestMED Initiative launched a new Technical Group on Sustainable Tourism, which will serve as a forum to discuss trends and opportunities for sustainable tourism in the area. The group will provide support to participants to develop project ideas around the EU priorities for tourism: green transition, digitalisation, promotion of social inclusion, governance, and skills.Counting with non-EU members under the WestMED Initiative, this technical group will also focus on addressing other policy and regulation topics that can help non-EU countries develop these sustainable tourism practices.

The "Together for EU Tourism" (T4T) group of experts was established by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) to support the implementation of the Transition Pathway for Tourism. This pathway is part of the broader strategy to transform the EU’s tourism ecosystem, focusing on three key areas: the green transition, digital transformation, and enhancing resilience, skills, and inclusivity in the sector.The T4T expert group consists of members representing diverse tourism stakeholders, including public authorities, industry leaders, SMEs, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. It works in subgroups dedicated to specific challenges, such as digitalization, environmental sustainability, and skills development, to ensure collaborative solutions are implemented across Europe.The group provides advice and assists the European Commission in preparing tourism policy initiatives, exchanging best practices, and supporting coordination between member states and stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem. One of its key goals is to facilitate the implementation of the European Tourism Agenda 2030 and the ongoing transformation towards a more sustainable, digital, and resilient tourism industry.
