CurrentThe search for neutrinoless double-beta decay (0νββ) offers a way to probe for new physics including explanation of the observed matter-dominated Universe. While the upcoming nEXO experiment will search for 0νββ decay in 136Xe with sensitivities to a level of 10^19 times the age of the Universe, new avenues are being investigated as future upgrades to nEXO. We are developing one such approach focusing on extraction and identification of the ββ-decay daughter Ba ion, also known as Ba-tagging, which will suppress all non-ββ background.I am leading efforts to commission an experimental apparatus to develop an accelerator-driven ion source for radioactive ion implantation in liquid xenon, extraction and subsequent identification using gamma-spectroscopy.
