Irene has volunteered and worked in the sport sector for over twenty-two years. Currently she is an Event Manager with the BC Games Society, where she has worked for the past eleven years. In this capacity she provides support and resources to community volunteers as they plan and stage the BC Games. She also serves as the Technology Manager, overseeing the organization’s computer systems and custom software development. Irene’s portfolio also includes managing sport for the BC Summer Games, and together with a colleague, overseeing the Core Sport program. Prior to moving to Victoria in 1999, Irene held the position of Executive Director for Judo BC for seven years.Irene served on the ProMOTION Plus Board from 2003 to 2010, including four years as Chair. She also chaired the Steering Committee for the Women in Sport Leadership initiative which brought 99 women sport leaders together in January 2009.Irene has been on Team BC Mission Staff for the Canada Summer Games (2001), Canada Winter Games (1995 and 2007), and Western Canada Summer Games (2007). She was the Chef de Mission for the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games that were held in Kamloops.Irene was a facilitator of the United Way's Volunteer Leadership Development Program (where she specialized in board governance), was a member of the Board for Sport BC (2009-2013) where she served as Vice Chair of the Board (2012-2013) and Chair of the Governance Committee (2010-2013) and has served on various boards and committees for sport and service organizations including Karate BC (1990-1996), the Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown (1994-1999).Irene is a trained facilitator for the Women in Leadership workshop series managed by CAAWS and ProMOTION Plus, an Investigative Officer responsible for investigating complaints of harassment and a trainer of harassment advisors in the BC sport system since 1995, and has been an In-school Mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Victoria since 1999.
