I am a recent graduate from BYU-Hawaii, which is one of the most diverse universities representing over 75 different cultures. I received my major in English with an emphasis on professional writing and a minor in Spanish. I graduated in June 2024. I transferred to BYU-Hawaii after receiving my Associate of Legal Studies from Southern Utah University. I plan to continue my education and attend Law school in Fall 2025. I love to learn, and I thrive on constructive criticism. This has helped me greatly at my job as a tutor at the reading and writing center at BYU-Hawaii. The reading and writing center serves a more diverse audience than any other academic service offered on campus. This provided me with opportunities to continually refine my communication, time management, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the continuous criticism of my leaders, peers, and tutees allowed me to grow as a tutor and student as I learned to apply what I had learned. My current position has also enhanced my ability to work on a team, as I am constantly working with clients and co-workers. The skills I have learned from this job are transferable to many other professions and positions. During my full-time volunteer experience in Mexico, I was able to become fluent in the Spanish language. My fluency in the Spanish language led me to a position of leadership within the volunteer organization. This position included the constant training of a new native volunteer in skills such as time management, teaching, and organization. My success in effectively teaching all required skills led the trainee to obtain a leadership position as well. Throughout my time in Mexico, I was fortunate enough to learn many skills that I have been able to apply to my schooling and work.
