Isabel is an IR physician-scientist at the VA San Diego and UCSD. At the VASDMC, she is Chief of IR and Wellness Director of Radiology. She is an active member of the Radiology Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Her translational research focuses on reducing liver and breast cancer recurrence after thermal ablation by stimulating an anti-tumor immune response. Her clinical research focuses on improving the consent process for minimally invasive, image-guided procedures (MIIPs). She is also Co-Founder and Chair of the Interventional Initiative (the II), a 501c3 organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of MIIPs. Isabel has co-Directed and co-Produced the documentary series, Without a Scalpel - episodes are available on a variety of on-demand platforms, including Amazon Prime. Currentlly, the II's main initiative is the production of a complete library of Patient Decision Aids written in plain language English and Spanish.
