Authored a 30 page research report on turf fertilization trends in Maryland showing that lawn fertilizer is a significant component of total fertilizer use as compared with agricultural fertilizer. Title: “Lawn Fertilizer Contributions in the State of Maryland to Nutrient Loading in the Chesapeake Bay.” Report summary published on SafeLawns national blog site and in Easton Star Democrat newspaper.

Assisted in oceanographic administrative duties and projects. Rearranged office and lab areas for more efficient use of space and organized data samples and lab equipment for ease of use. Sorted and categorized oceanographic consortium files from the 1970’s to present.

Worked in a team for the North Carolina Maritime Museum to conduct a survey of Crystal Coast residents assessing their satisfaction with the museum with the goal of increasing museum attendance and educational outreach.

Researched and compiled marine debris impacts on water quality and ocean wildlife into an organizational-wide database and for a Risk Assessment Report and poster at 18th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals in Quebec, Canada. Select findings included in Ocean Conservancy’s 2009 International Coastal Cleanup report, “A Rising Tide of Ocean Debris and What We Can Do About It.” Researched ocean energy technologies and potential impacts to water quality and marine wildlife in support of Ocean Conservancy’s potential expansion into ocean energy issues and marine spatial planning. Organized 2 member petitions to US Congress with over 8,000 signatures and comments in each. Collaborated with colleagues to draft action alerts and petitions; participated in weekly department-wide meetings to assess progress in completing tasks and achieving desired goals of specific projects.

Authored a research report documenting ecotourism impacts on marine wildlife and ocean communities in support of SEE Turtles conservation tourism program.
