Senior Materials Scientist; Sls Tech Lead
• Spearheaded the development of Nylon 12 White, creating the first-ever powder formulation and production method for Formlabs' selective laser sintering (SLS) line. Led the full scale-up process from lab to pilot to full-scale production, along with the design and implementation of key QC metrics.• Managed and guided a cross-functional team of scientists and technicians in the SLS materials and print process teams, driving new materials and products with a focus on color hue and saturation, from initial concept through to commercialisation.• Established internal powder and liquid dispersion manufacturing capabilities and built strategic partnerships with suppliers and manufacturing partners, playing a pivotal role in the commercialisation process.• Collaborated closely with business development and product teams to design and develop prototypes for end-use customers.• Conducted comprehensive materials characterisation for both SLS and stereolithography (SLA) product lines, utilising a range of techniques including thermal and thermo-mechanical testing (TGA, DSC, DMA), X-ray spectroscopy (XRF, XRD, XPS, SAXS) requiring ultra-high vacuum, Raman, FTIR, NIR, and microCT imaging at MIT.nano.•
Assistant Coach At University Of Illinois Rowing Club
• Coaching the men and women's rowing teams at novice and varsity level.• Achieved two silvers and a bronze medal and the ACRA National Championship Regatta in 2022.
Postdoctoral Researcher At Beckman Institute: Autonomous Materials Systems Group
• Formulated new thermoset materials for 3D printing and designing and building a robotic system for 3D printing of large‑scale architectural structures using FROMP (frontal ring-opening metathesis polymerisation).• Collaborating with Autonomic Materials Inc. and ARPA‑E (Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy) to extrude large-scale pipes for underground pipe rehabilitation.• Developed new resin compositions for free-form printing/direct ink writing out of various nozzle orifices with a working time greater than one hour. • Position included new polymer development and characterisation (rheology, thermal and mechanical testing, imaging), implementing material delivery and mixing systems, and robotic and user interface design in Python/JavaScript.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
• Working within the Human-Computer Interaction Engineering (HCIE) within the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory• Developed a re-programmable multi-colour coating using photochromic inks.• Best paper award for UIST paper “Photo-Chromeleon: Re-programmable multi-color textures using photochromic dyes”, placing it within the top 1% of papers presented at The ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST) 2019.• Developed a new technique for 3D printing multi-colour objects using digital light processing (DLP) including creating new resin formulations, designing and building the printer hardware and software and implementing a user interface that enabled colouring of digital objects, generation of support structures and output of the final printer commands.• Collaborated with New Balance, Ford Motors and the Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA) to investigate the addition of photochromic materials into textile manufacturing processes for footwear and automotive interiors including dyeing and screen printing.
Epsrc Research Fellow
• Situated within the Bristol Interaction Group in the Department of Computer Science• Implemented outputs from Material Science into Human-Computer Interaction to create shape-changing interfaces.• Best paper nominee for the paper “HCI meets Material Science”, placing it within the top 5% of papers presented at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) 2018, the leading conference in Human-Computer Interaction.• Awarded a two-year EPSRC research fellowship to investigate colour-changing and shape-changing materials for HCI with a one-year secondment to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Research Assistant In The Recycling Of High Performance Discontinuous Fibres (Hiperdif)
The HiPerDiF (High Performance Discontinuous Fibres) manufacturing method, developed at the University of Bristol, is a new high speed process to produce discontinuous fibre architectures with high volume fraction. This project investigates the application of this process for Quality Control of reclaimed carbon fibres in recycled composite materials and its potential for producing pellets for thermoplastic injection moulding/3D printing. This is part of the High Performance Ductile Composite Technology (HiPerDuCT) programme.
