I worked within the Families and Communities Department for 12 weeks through the Rising High Internship Programme.

My role was primarily pastoral and managerial support for 450 students including emotional support, advice, first aid, maintenance, organizing events, giving presentations, administration tasks, and offering conflict prevention. If a situation needs additional means, I assisted the student in accessing further services and ensure senior staff are made aware.

My duties included leading activities in a group or 1:1 setting, providing general first aid and care advice, assisting with daily personal care, planning activities, working in multiple locations as part of a team or individually, documenting information including medical information, upholding safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.

I worked with individuals with ASN, teaching them cooking, music, sports, art and employment based skills in an active and fun manner. I considered each individual's strengths and develop these whilst encouraging individuals to try new things. This improved their independence, confidence, and helped them gain transferable skills for the workplace.

Glasgow

In this role I worked as part of a tight knit team, working alongside prominent academics, Giving What We Can, 80,000 Hours, and other high profile charities and meta-charities. I was required to collaborate well with a variety of individuals and change my communication style to fit with the scenario.

Assisting with the running of an after school club for individuals with ASN and complex learning needs between 12 and 18 years old.
