My current role involves many activities during the lifespan of a clinical trial as well as improving systems development and processes at BCT. I assist protocol development to ensure key data points are correctly incorporated, design databases and electronic data capture forms for trials that are run nationally and internationally and ensure key safety and end data points are captured, assist and train sites and other CRAs in the use of these systems during the trial, design and action procedures to clean databases prior to statistical analysis, manage teams in cleaning activities, and collaborate with statisticians to finalise statistical reports for key safety milestones and end of trial reporting.

This contract position was focused on a secondary analysis on the data collected in my PhD. My responsibilities included a literature review on the topic, performing statistical assessments and preparing manuscripts focusing on the interplay between various nutrients and their metabolites concerning clinical and biochemical indicators of healthy aging.

I have submitted my PhD thesis in Nutritional Biochemistry at the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). For my PhD, I investigated lifestyle interventions for healthy ageing, in particular increasing protein intake and resistance training in over 65s, to help increase their muscle mass, strength, and function. This involved managing a clinical trial with involvement in all phases of the trial, from development to recruitment, to ongoing management of participants, and lastly in statistical analysis.

In this role I have conducted laboratory work (analysing fatty acid levels in red blood cells) and clinical work. I conduct clinical study visits which can include obtaining medical history, medication history, dietary assessment, blood collection, body composition measurement including height, weight, DEXA and BIA scans, strength and function assessment.
