While at LOIS, I worked on developing 11 natural and vegan skin care formulations that passed stability and were very well evaluated by 3 panels of potential consumers. LOIS Beauty Craft was a startup company that focused on providing natural, safe, and time-saving “Craft-It-Yourself” (CIY) beauty products. LOIS received seed funds from the Rowan University and the NJIT/AWIS/NSF I-Corps startup accelerator programs. Due to life events, the founders and partners have decided to save this project for a more fruitful occasion.

I worked on the development of more sustainable and safer polymers and polymer additives, including materials derived from isoflavones, in a project geared to 3D-printing and sponsored by the US Army Research Laboratory .I also worked on the purification and synthesis of Bisphenol A alternatives in a project sponsored by the US National Institutes of Health. Previously, I co-conducted undergraduate students in an Engineering Clinic course. This study resulted in methods to predict recrystallization in sunscreens and it was sponsored by INOLEX.I have used analytical methods such as HPLC, NMR, GPC, DSC, FTIR, TGA, DMA, rheometer and others.All these projects have been held at the Sustainable Materials Research Laboratory coordinated by Professor Joseph F Stanzione, PhD.

- I worked with the application team to develop new and innovative personal care and cosmetic formulations (sun, skin and hair care; color cosmetics etc.) showcasing functional ingredients, such as polymers, film formers, emollient esters, alternative preservation systems, botanical extracts, delivery systems, colorants and a plethora of other cosmetic ingredients;- I conducted physical-chemical and sensorial assessment of prototypes;- I adapted and helped to validate more than 5 analytical methods later implemented into R&D routine (HPLC, UV-Vis);- I collaborated actively in the launch of ClariSilk™ and PhytoTrace™ products;- I wrote two draft patent applications which were later filed in the USA and other PCT countries;- I facilitated the communication and processes among INOLEX USA, INOLEX Brazil and the French subsidiary ieS Labo;- I offered technical support to decision making when acquiring and/or licensing new technologies/business;- I held technical training presentations to the sales team.

I offered general assistance at the Research Policy and Foresight Section in the sector of Social and Human Sciences, under the supervision of PhD Riel Miller, where I worked closely with issues such as the Future of Cities, Food and Education. Particularly responsible for a study about the relation of anticipation and identity with the behaviors and expectations of cosmetics consumers. This internship was supported by CAPES, the Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel.

I coordinated a team of more than 30 doctorate and master students gathered to host an international scientific event in Ribeirão Preto city, Brazil, for about 400 people. This event welcomed Mr. Jean-Marc Verbavatz, an expert in aquaporins-3 and their physiology, among other researchers. We also raised more than R$ 160,000.00 (about US$ 80,000.00 at the time) and saved 25% for the next edition. This edition was granted with R$ 66,960.00 from Brazilian fund agencies for education and research (CAPES and FAPESP).
