I am an entrepreneur and an educator. Recently, I became the co-founder and principal of New Leader Academy, my educational career, I have worn many hats, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, and Special Education teacher. Now, I have an extremely strong and capable team working alongside me. I am proud and honored to call them my partners. While serving in each of these positions, I have shown the ability to build relationships, encourage a positive culture and climate within the building, and the ability to problem-solve at a high level. I am a diligent administrator who has been consistently commended as a results-oriented individual by my colleagues and supervisors. Over the course of my administrative career, I've developed a skill set directly relevant to any administration role. I have always enjoyed the evaluation process. This process allows an administrator to become an instructional coach. I always look for an opportunity to help a teacher become a better educator so that we can better serve students. It has always been a privilege to work with students throughout my career. In my current role as assistant principal in CUSD 300, I can teach them the importance of owning their choices, thinking critically, respecting others, and connecting teaching to learning. All students can learn, so if they did not learn then we did not teach. As a Dean at Rock Island High School, I served as the administrator in charge of the special education program. This required me to ensure that everyone in our department followed all special education regulations promptly. As my colleagues will attest, my goal is to build relationships and meet the needs of all students, specifically students with special needs. Working in a special education district, BlackHawk Area Special Education District/BHASED, was one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. The group of students that I was allowed to serve decreased in negative behaviors and increased grade level performance. My understanding of the compliance laws surrounding special education helped me create a multi-tiered approach regarding behavior in my administrative career. During my time as Dean in Rock Island, I trained primary implementers to properly conduct MDRs, Annuals, evaluations, and reevaluation meetings. I am proud to say that I know how to stay compliant within the complex web of special education law.
