Main interests: administrative and business histories of heritage organisations / management of the historic environment / heritage by organisations, and policy development for heritage / historic preservation.I am based at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh as a Professor in the School of Social Sciences. I am also a member of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research and of the Faculty of Human, Social & Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I trained as an archaeologist at Edinburgh and have a PhD in heritage management from Cambridge, and have spent over 25 years working with a variety of heritage and tourism organisations throughout the UK. My main research interest is strategic management within conservation organisations, and scenario planning/foresight work for heritage policy development.External commitments: I am involved in a number of committees and professional advisory panels associated with historic environment management. These include:Society of Antiquaries of Scotland Council Member; Winchburgh Community Development Trust Board Member. Chair of the Built Environment Forum Scotland's (BEFS) Historic Environment Working Group.Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Creative, Cultural Industries and Heritage Network member.
