Heritage, tourism and archaeology expertise, working in both higher education (Business Schools) and industry/NGO contexts at Director/Board level. International consultancy, research/analytical support and university / professional development practice-based teaching focus. Main interests: administrative and business histories of heritage organisations / management of the historic environment / heritage by organisations, and policy development for heritage / historic preservation.I am based at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh as a Professor in the School of Social Sciences. I am also a member of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research and of the Faculty of Human, Social & Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I trained as an archaeologist at Edinburgh and have a PhD in heritage management from Cambridge, and have spent over 25 years working with a variety of heritage and tourism organisations throughout the UK. My main research interest is strategic management within conservation organisations, and scenario planning/foresight work for heritage policy development.External commitments: I am involved in a number of committees and professional advisory panels associated with historic environment management.
