About Isidor Pollak
6 years ago we started imagining what identity would look like in the next iteration of the internet. Even though avatars have been around for 20+ years, they’ve never been culturally relevant or impacted the identity of the masses. We’re seeing a shift. Humans need better tools to share how we feel on the inside in the spaces where we spend our time. Additionally, while avatars are mostly digital tools, they serve human needs far beyond just representation in virtual spaces.An avatar provides a safe & fluid vehicle to show who we really are without the risk of judgement from the physical world, like a secret we keep with ourselves. With avatars, humans can test aesthetics that represent how we feel on the inside but maybe are too afraid to demonstrate physically. One can test colored hair, tattoos, eccentric clothing and more from the safety of their avatar. While this expands the possibilities of who we can be in the digital world, more importantly it informs and inspires who we can become in the physical world. I’m proud to have been working since 2017 on how these creatures will change the way we relate not only to each other, but to ourselves. When we started, I was originally brought on to the founding team to build the emotions and personality of the avatars. My background is in acting and directing, so I was charged with capturing selfie content expressing all the colors of the emotional rainbow. This content was then animated and tested for how my expressions of various emotions resonated with our Gen-Z target audience.From there, I’ve had the pleasure of playing many roles at Genies from scaling our socials, managing 100,000+ high school ambassador programs, developing the brand partnership strategy for the first celebrity avatar agency, leading technology sales & partnerships for our early SDK, and most recently reimagining user engagement with our Community department. Along the way, we also established the Humans fund where we invest in companies and founders building for the next iteration of the internet which includes investments in companies such as OpenSea, Dapper, Yuga Labs, RTFKT, Alchemy Labs, and more.While we’ve gone from 6 kids above a taco shop to 160+ globally, I wake up everyday energized and excited about the journey ahead. After our Series C, it feels like day 1 all over again and I’m eager to continue building towards a world where everyone has the tools to show up as their highest self.We’re just getting started.
