I am responsible for ensuring I deliver the specialist trained paediatric/neonatal intensive care team to the appropriate destination. I then assist with the transfer by setting up our transfer equipment and supporting our clinical fellows and specialist nurses with appropriate interventions prior to transport. The Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS) is a paediatric critical care transport team serving around 50 hospitals in the North Thames, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and East Anglia. Being one of the largest specialist paediatric transport services in Europe and move 1200 critically ill children a year by road and air. The CATS team take the skills of a paediatric intensive care unit ‘on the road’, to the bedside of critically ill children where it is needed.
