Coast Guard Liaison Officer To U.S. Fleet Forces Command

Norfolk, Virginia Area

In my most recent position with the United States Coast Guard (USCG), I established and enhanced inter-service relationships, cooperation, and program execution between the USCG, Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC) as the principal representative of USCG to the USN Atlantic Fleet. As the Arctic Lead for USCG’s Atlantic Area Command, I created and managed partnerships with governments of Arctic nations and international organizations for purposes of diplomacy, defense strategy, maritime safety/security, commerce, and other joint ventures. During this time I launched and managed a variety of service-level projects and programs from concept through execution/conclusion. I trained and mentored USCG officers and directly influenced large-scale resource allocation and financial decision-making. I have been able to accomplish multiple notable highlights throughout the last 3 years in this position. I fundamentally transformed functional and cultural aspects of the relationship between USCG and USN while completely restructuring the liaison role from a background advisory position to that of a high-profile, mission critical partner.

2018 - 2021 ~3 yrs

Air Station Commanding Officer

Savannah, Georgia

I was selected for this prestigious and highly exclusive aviation command (only 12 such commands exist within USCG) due to my unique qualifications, including leadership experience, excellence as an aviator and systems expert, and program management acumen. In this role, I transformed the Air Station in Savannah, GA into leading USCG installations in the U.S. in terms of operational success, inspection results, and unit recognition. I forged partnerships with the US Army to establish USCG access and presence at Army Air Fields, which amplified emergency response capabilities during multiple hurricane response operations. Additionally, I conducted risk assessments and set and monitored performance KPIs as the leader of 29 officers, 88 enlisted personnel, 4 civilians, and 130 Coast Guard Auxiliary members. I was held accountable for all Air Station project/program domains, including training, finance, medical, maintenance, and administration. I also championed an effort to designate Savannah as a “Coast Guard City” in order to recognize the USCG’s positive presence and impact in southeast Georgia.

2016 - 2018 ~2 yrs

Air Station Executive Officer

Detroit, Michigan, United States

As the Air Station Executive Officer, I ensured the day-to-day operational success, good order, and discipline across a 5-helicopter/multi-mission Air Station with nearly 120 personnel. I engendered a culture of equality, respect, and support for a work-life balance, which led to the Air Station becoming a desirable workplace for a diverse team of pilots. I also increased readiness and cohesion by introducing improved training and development programs for both officers and enlisted personnel. A few of my notable highlights included the no-cost acquisition of a fitness facility gained from leveraging existing relationships with the U.S. Air Force. The acquisition also increased the unit’s footprint and created the Air Station Detroit Community Outreach Program to advance community relations. The program led to nearly 200 hours donated to Habitat for Humanity and 800+ hours of tutoring provided to at-risk students through the Partnership for Education Program.

2013 - 2016 ~3 yrs

Joint/Interagency Logistics Program Manager (U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters)

Washington, District Of Columbia, United States

In 2010, I was hand-selected as the USCG’s first ever Joint Expeditionary Logistics Subject Matter Expert. While in this role, I revolutionized logistics support for operational forces and DoD Combatant Commanders during both steady state and contingency operations. I defined logistics support requirements for overseas expeditionary forces and aligned USCG logistics requirements and delivery methods with global operations plans. I was able to secure the funding and buy-in necessary to manage and enact technological and systemic change at an enterprise scale. I achieved several significant accomplishments during my tenure in this position including orchestrating the logistics, mobility, and transportation support for the USCG and DoD joint response to the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti. I was also selected as 1 of 4 finalists, and the only USCG nominee in history, for the prestigious Department of Defense Logistician of the Year Award for 2012.

2010 - 2013 ~3 yrs

Air Station Aeronautical Engineering Officer

Los Angeles, California, United States

In this position, I commanded aviation maintenance operations for Air Station Los Angeles. I judiciously managed multimillion-dollar fiscal responsibilities and led 79 personnel. In addition to this, I became a designated Flight Examiner and Instructor pilot, achieving the highest level of aviation qualification and command endorsement. Throughout my time in this position, I also achieved several operational firsts, including in the first operational hoist of a K-9 team to a ship at sea for purposes of WMD smuggling detection. My early roles as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard included the following: ➤ Air Station Assistant Aeronautical Engineering Officer (Traverse City, MI) – Instructor Pilot, Aircraft Commander ➤ Antarctic Aviation Detachment Pilot, U.S. Coast Guard Polar Operations Division (Mobile, AL) – Deployed Aircraft Commander➤ Air Station Port Angeles (Port Angeles, WA) – Aircraft Commander/Environmental Officer/Administration Department Head ➤ Navy Flight School (Pensacola, FL) – Student Naval Aviator (Graduated in record time for USCG)➤ U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless (Galveston, TX) – Deck Watch Officer, Boarding Team Leader ➤ U.S. Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT) – Cadet-Earned Bachelor of Science in Management
