As a class, we set our code of conduct on the first day, determining what each person needs to have our time together feel safe. This allows everyone to show up fully to face their fear of public speaking, a fear that is higher than the fear of death for most people.Throughout the course, I use a number of activities that help my students drill down into what they're actually passionate about, where they're holding themselves back, and how they might like to utilize their passion in the future. By the end of the course, students have gone through an experience where they have permission to just be. They support their classmates, and leave with confidence in what they want to do in the world and why they are the right people to be doing it.
