Leads and coordinates security and plant protection activities for Security Operations at the West Jefferson facility as officer in charge of the Security Officer activities on an assigned shift. Directs assigned Security Officers; oversees systems and inspections and reviews reports.-Ensures enforcement of regulations on assigned shift to prevent breaches of security. Directs Security Officers subordinates in the enforcement of policies and rules.-Determines appropriate responses to incidents and alarms including direct intervention or requests for assistance from outside sources. Reports incidents for handling by proper authorities. Exercises judgment and discretion in emergency and security situations.-Oversees duty post rotation and maintains attendance records of assigned staff. Oversees time recording for the shift and maintains related reports.-Performs quality assurance pre-duty inspections of Security Officers and equipment to assure compliance with standards.-Oversees alarm system tests and facility emergency equipment inspections as directed.-Oversees or conducts inspection of premises to identify safety hazards and ensure enforcement of safety and security rules. Notifies appropriate persons of safety hazards or security violations, such as those related to parking, traffic and access control enforcement, in a timely manner. -Reviews Security Officer reports for completeness and forwards to management.-Ensures that all Security Officers on the shift understand their job duties and the scope of their responsibilities, including maintaining proficiencies on systems and equipment.-Assists in the control of certain budget items such as the control of overtime by efficiently scheduling staff and by using monitoring metrics, to manage fuel costs, repairs and maintenance, uniforms, supplies,  etc.-Provide orientation and assist in the training of new Security Officers.- Conduct investigations as needed to support client needs.

Current position includes assuming the role as Officer in Charge and primary firearms instructor.Under general supervision, performs duties related to the enforcement of security regulations and procedures to protect Battelle staff and property. Operates the Control Center at the West Jefferson facilities and maintains thorough working knowledge of all security systems as described in the Security Officers Orders.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES--Operates the Control Center in the initiation of emergency procedures for Columbus or West Jefferson facilities. Effectively operates security systems as required and as described in the Security Officers Orders. For King Avenue Officers: performs Columbus Control Center secondary alarm response activities for West Jefferson as required.--Maintains thorough working knowledge of all emergency procedures, duress codes and responses as described in the Security Officers Orders.--Initiates proper responses for all alarms, emergencies or unusual occurrences reported through security systems or by staff.--Maintains all Control Center shift documentation such as reports, logs, visitor registers and key logs.--Performs and documents access control procedures for secured areas.--Performs perimeter security inspections and drug free work-place inspections. Checks identification of persons entering and leaving the premises and protects buildings against illegal entry.--Conducts confidential investigations, enforces parking regulations and the Battelle Safety Program. Notifies appropriate persons of safety hazards or security violations, such as those related to parking, traffic and access control enforcement, in a timely manner.--Follows all radio procedures and maintains professional demeanor while operating communications system.--Thorough knowledge of Battelle emergency procedures, local law enforcement assistance, fire services, emergency medical, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters and other emergency responses
