As Director of CNS, I managed a large operation that provided network and workstation services to NYS customer agencies through rate-based, managed services. The scope of this environment was about 1,000 locations (850 wired sites), 33,000 workstations and 54,000 end-users. The service offerings included LAN/WAN networking, remote client and SSL VPN access, Windows Active Directory, Internet Proxy access with malware and content filtering and workstation management which incorporated image, patch and energy management, software distribution, anti-virus/anti-spyware, remote control, and installation services. I was responsible for the State’s centralized email offering, NYSeMail, a Exchange 2007 solution servicing about 92,500 accounts. I was also responsible for NYS Directory Services, a LDAP offering, supporting about 1,500,000 accounts. The CNS organization provided design, architecture, deployment and support services that include Level 2 & 3 technical support.

Managed the day-to-day operation of the enterprise customer network serving about 1,000 sites, 56,000 users and 33,000 workstations. This managed service includes Windows Active Directory services, Internet access, Level 2 & 3 support, LANs/WANs, and remote (client VPN & SSL VPN) access. Participated in the development of an Implementation Advanced Planning Document (IAPD) to modernization of the Human Services Network, estimated at $ 70,200,000. Initiated and successfully completed a five-county pilot, then commenced the statewide modernization project. Oversaw the pilot and initial deployment of a new networking strategy between NYS and the counties entitled OneNetNYS. Served on the Tivoli Board of Advisors.

Managed the consolidation of agencies’ networks, under the Human Services Application Service Center, serving 1,000 sites supported by the Department of Labor, Department of Health, the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Office of Children and Family Services. Responsible for all facets of day-to-day data communications network operations. Key player in a long-term planning initiative to modernize and further consolidate the network infrastructure including email platforms and Windows Active Directory domains. Championed the selection and development of a systems management solution for the enterprise.

Managed the Department’s statewide data communications network. Responsible for the design, operations and performance of the network serving about 80 sites, including four call centers. Responsible for operation of inter-agency gateways, WANs/LANs, dial-up access and self-service kiosks. Managed legacy IBM Series/1 environment, IBM 3270 terminal environment, IBM 3725/3745 Front-end Processors, including Network Control Program, and transition to LAN-based environments. Managed staff of 20 high- and mid-level specialists and technicians, including Level 1 help desk.
