Before I started placing executives in the banking industry, I had placed sales people. Having been a sales person myself, it felt quite natural for me to become a sales specialist in the recruiting field. I placed sales professionals from coast to coast with some very well-known corporations, such as Xerox, several of the divisions of Johnson & Johnson, Warner Lambert, just to name a few. I became good enough at it to actually start up my own firm, headquartered in Encino. I opened our first branch, in Westwood, the following year, and our second, in Costa Mesa, the year after that. The firm eventually employed a staff of 12 recruiters, not counting myself.In 1982, I decided to change fields, to leave sales for an industry less involved with change, steadier and more conservative, which is why I chose the banking industry. Ironic, don't you think?

I began my career with IBM as a Sales Trainee. For the first three months, I studied eight hours a day, every day, in order to pass the entrance exam IBM administered to all trainees on day one of its sales training program in Dallas, Texas. After passing the exam, I spent four weeks in Dallas learning how to be a good IBM salesman. I finished second in my class. One year later, IBM sent me back to Dallas to participate in its Advanced Sales Training program, where I spent one more week, this time learning how to be a great IBM salesman.
