Industrial Placement StudentGsk Aug 2014 - Jul 2015UlverstonI have spent a year at GSK Ulverston in the technical chemistry department for the industrial placement of my MChem degree.I have performed user testing on samples in the laboratory to simulate plant processes, I then analysed the samples using HPLC and Polarimetry techniques to determine the quantity of impurities present in the samples. This enabled me to support plant processes and assess the impact of process changes. This work supported continuous manufacture of an antibiotic during a supply issue.I have used FTIR-ATR and SEM/EDX to perform analysis on unknown samples. This has allowed the root cause of an issue to be identified and preventative actions to be put in place.
