As a client service executive the role entails the operation and maintenance of Barclay’s stockbroking accounts. It is my responsibility to maintain these accounts our clients possess. This is done by providing advice and guidance on their respective accounts, transferring cash and informing our clients on the features and benefits as well as the tax implications associated. A good knowledge of the financial markets is required, as I am expected to be able to provide information on corporate actions, dividends and other relevant market dealings. Ultimately the role requires a good level of responsibility and diligence due to the high risk nature of the trading environment. As an executor I am expected to place trades on behalf of the clients, and on most scenarios there are significant amounts of money being transferred. This has also developed my ability to communicate with a variety of client bases in niche markets. The trading environment coupled with a pool of high wealth clients has provided valuable experience in communicating and working within this demographic.

Most of my working career has been spent with the retail company, Tesco. Within this role I had to communicate effectively with customers on a face to face basis, finding the right electrical product to suit their needs. After identifying this, I had to tailor an appropriate package, whether it be a warranty plan or processing financial credit agreements. I also had to regularly merchandise our department, changing fixtures and point of sale in relation to products that are being promoted by the company. During my tenure I also acted as a team leader, due the absence of our colleague. This period extended to six months until our team leader returned. During this period it involved me doing rotas for fellow colleagues and delegating tasks effectively to ensure all elements of the shift ran smoothly, as well as conducting disciplinary hearings. Tesco as an employer has a high turnover of staff, given my experience working for the organisation, often I was tasked with training the new recruits. This usually entails closely working with people, teaching and demonstrating the firms’ practices and procedures. From which I trained new recruits to be multi-skilled in line with store competences.
