In this position, I was an Ocean Lifeguard tasked with keeping the beach safe by monitoring the shoreline, saving drowning victims, administering first aid, maintaining service radio contact and organizing rescues in emergency situations. Training included cold water swims, timed distance swims and runs, and simulated "mock" rescues. I participated in specialized drills and lifeguard competitions during my time here. In later years, I would train new lifeguards on the same principles. In mornings, we would go over emergency procedures, take care of equipment, and complete daily exercises to ensure we were in peak physical and mental condition during the season.
