After completing my degree, I went to work with Learn by Design who facilitate the National Citizen Service (NCS) government scheme. Over two job cycles I have been responsible for 31 15-17 year olds. I had to supervise across a range of outdoor activities such as raft building as well as running sessions to enhance their personal skills, knowledge of community, the importance of their vote and opinions into the bigger picture of society. This role has been incredibly rewarding as my teams have raised awareness for mental health support with ‘Hike with Mike’ and then raised money for ‘Heart Heroes’ focussing on children with heart conditions. This role has also allowed me to enhance my leadership skills by setting and sticking to deadlines, dealing with incidents- sometimes requiring first aid and ensuring that all the participants are engaged and their needs were catered for.
