I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in second grade, and it was school fundraising season. My dad and I were in his office with a sales script that he wrote for me. I had a list of relatives, and I was cold calling. “Hi, this is Jack Hurley from Kelley School; do you have a few minutes to discuss how you can help the students at our school?” I sat in that office with him for hours, calling all my relatives trying to get any donations I could. This hard work paid off, though. I had raised the most money in the whole school by over double. The adrenaline rush when I received my first “yes” was unforgettable. It was an amazing feeling, and I was hooked, I knew I was born to sell. The fact is, business has always been in my blood. My grandfathers are both entrepreneurs who started their own businesses, and my father is in sales. I knew on that day that sales and entrepreneurship would be my future.Growing up, I have become extremely passionate about sales and entrepreneurship. From many sales lessons with my father to starting my first six-figure business when I was 16, I learned many valuable sales and life skills. I learned the importance of networking and being able to communicate with people from all walks of life. I learned how to mirror the people I was selling to. I learned the importance of hard work and consistency. I learned how to close sales. I learned how to fail. Most importantly, I learned how to learn. I am excited to continue learning new skills and improving old ones while at Fairfield University and am excited to see what I’ll be selling next.
