In Dr. Janet Zoldan's lab, I improved delivery efficiency of fatty acids to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) via a novel microfluidic device, duplicated in SOLIDWORKS, for iPSC-derived cardiomycoyte maturation. Specifically, I maintained culture and differentiation of iPSCs and performed immunostaining, flow cytometry, qPCR, and metabolic assays. I also mentored an undergraduate student through these processes. PhD candidate.

The SENS Research Foundation mentorship program is intended to further develop an undergraduate's laboratory and communication skills via an independent research project, periodic reports, and a student symposium. My proposed project was in Dr. Pankaj Kapahi's lab at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging where I was to optimize a Drosophila Alzheimer's disease model and determine the role of DR-modulated miRNAs. Unfortunately, this opportunity was cancelled due to COVID-19.

In Dr. Ketih Gooch's lab, I confirmed and improved the accuracy of a motor clutch model MATLAB program that predicts cell dynamics based on substrate stiffness and cyclic stretch factors. Specifically, I assisted in live rat cardiac fibroblast isolation, cell culture, imaging analysis, and large data set analysis. My team's findings were published in the Molecular Biology of the Cell journal.

I participated in the Biomedical engineering Research for Active Military and Veterans (BRAVe) REU program funded by the National Science Foundation. In Dr. Gabriela Romero's lab, I optimized the formation of novel hydrogels implanted with nanodiscs for magnetically induced mechanical stimulation of neuroblast growth for treatment of spinal cord injury. Specifically, I created and characterized these hydrogels using SEM and TEM. I also transfected neuroblasts with a mechanosensitive ion channel gene and fluorescent indicator to observe mechanical stimulation under the microscope.
