2 projects:The first was helping to build a satellite drag sail based on Cranfield's Icarus 3 sail.The second was as project engineer for BAMMsat Icarus 3:This aimed to alter the existing design flown on TDS-1 and produce a flight model within 3 months, which we accomplished. I Did:Sourcing raw materials and components to match existing and newly defined requirements e.g. Selecting springs to improve an existing mechanism.• Designing and sourcing components for development and flight systems.• Cleanroom working.• Assembling prototype and flight models.• Function and preparation for vibration testing.BAMMsat:This upgraded the TRL of the proposed Bioscience, Astrobiology, Medical and Materials CubeSat from 2/3 to 4/5. BAMMsat is a 3U CubeSat with a 2U pressurised envelope for fluid handling, primarily human cell culture research.• Project planning and documentation.• Requirements capture.• Design and fabrication of microfluidic devices including sensors and electronics.• AIT of breadboard system with partner microscope (UK Astronomy technology centre)
