The Morris YMCA runs several sport camps during the summer, fall, winter, and spring. Being at this branch since 2020, I have fortunately been able to work with people of all kinds. Within the sports department, I have worked sport camps such as basketball, soccer, dodgeball, football, and more. Working from the times of the COVID pandemic to the present day, I have been able to implement the proper health and safety standards, lead large groups of kids ages as low as 3 up to 14, and communicate with several parents and staff.

The Morris YMCA Summer Camp consists of a 10 week camp with 80+ campers involved. I began this position in the summer of 2021. The camp consists of two pool days per week and one field trip day each week. Plenty goes into each day of camp from keeping the kids healthy and safe, especially during the heightened times of the COVID pandemic, to implementing a variety of activities daily while making sure to keep strong communication amongst fellow staff members and parents.

In this position, I came in during the middle of the season and quickly wanted to make a positive impact on the kids. During my time with the group, I pushed the boys to work hard each day in school, each practice, and each game. It was a goal of mine to make sure they left the season where they became not only better basketball players, but better people. I felt that this goal was accomplished and that there was a positive impact left on them and their future lives on and off the court.
