Information Technology ConsultantLoop Foundry May 2014 - PresentHobart, Tasmania, AustraliaSince 2014 we have been working with our Hobart-based clients (and more recently with clients throughout Victoria as well) to improve their business' efficiency through intelligent use of software. My role is multi-faceted, as co-founder, project manager and software developer, but it always revolves around delivering the best solutions for our clients. Specifically, I liaise with clients to determine their requirements, and then build combinations of off-the-shelf software, custom software (including websites, eCommerce stores, desktop tools, and mobile apps) and hosted services to deliver those requirements. We pride ourselves on our client satisfaction and the high rates of client retention we have.Major projects we have worked on include building an online booking form for a large car rental company, building a software-as-a-service tool to test English student's reading skills, and building a custom invoicing and accounting tool for an engineering firm. -
Managing DirectorLoop Foundry Jul 2012 - PresentHobart, Tasmania, AustraliaDoing corporate governance, management and finance stuff to support the consulting work behind the scenes. -
Contract Software EngineerLoop Foundry Jun 2013 - May 2014Hobart, Tasmania, AustraliaIn June 2013 I began working through Loop Foundry as a contract software engineer for a small team developing a scheduling and staff management web application. The back-end code was written in C# and used ASP.NET MVC and Entity Framework, and the front-end code was written in HTML5, TypeScript and SCSS.I learned a lot about structured web coding (including the MVC pattern) as well as REST API development. I found particular enjoyment implementing the OAuth2 specification from the authorization server's side. -
Software Developer & Systems AdministratorPrincipal Computers Jan 2012 - May 2013Hobart, Tasmania, AustraliaIn early 2012 I transitioned from my role as a technician for Principal Computers into a programmer and (primarily Linux) systems administrator for their corporate arm, Principal Technologies. My work was split fairly evenly between web development (mostly PHP/HTML/CSS work) and Linux systems administration (though I did sometimes step in to help with Windows-based servers as well). I worked on both internal and client projects, so this was a really varied role, giving me experience in a lot of different areas. One of my achievements during this time was designing and implementing a large-scale computer network for a new serviced office, putting each client on their own VLAN. This included firewalls between each client's VLAN, WAN link fail-over and load balancing, web proxy and custom written web-based administration tool. I also implemented an enterprise wireless network to cover all client VLANs using Aerohive's "Private PSK" feature.

Computer Technician & Sales ConsultantPrincipal Computers Nov 2007 - Jan 2012Hobart, Tasmania, AustraliaWhilst at Principal Computers I performed a number of roles, including computer technician (November 2007 to January 2012), retail sales (from May 2011 to January 2012) and on-site computer technician (December 2007 to January 2009). During these years I developed a firm understanding of PC hardware, home wireless computer networks and the Windows operating system, as well as cash handling, operating point-of-sales software and customer relations.Because I was able to transition from the repair workshop to the sales floor and excel in both roles my presence was of great benefit to the organisation, giving them the flexibility to have less staff on call. I was regularly called in to relieve both sales staff and workshop staff, and during quieter weekend periods I worked in both roles simultaneously.I was highly valued as an on-site computer technician as I was able to quickly and clearly explain technical concepts to those not familiar with Information Technology. Customers valued my down to earth explanations and quick and prompt service.
