I worked every summer at Steed Paving from 2018-2021. I worked directly under the owner and learned many valuable skills. I learned the basics of the job as well as good communication, problem solving, time management, mediation, and being a quick learner. Paving out in the hot sun require a great deal of good communication or else confusion and frustration ensues. Poor communication is also how I learned mediation. Two co-workers disagreed on how to complete a job so I had to step in. I let both sides voice their opinion and then suggested a combination of the two focusing on the best aspects. Sometimes mediation just takes some problem solving and leadership to step up and fill the role. I also had to be a quick learner at the job as mistakes are quite costly. I even had to learn time management to complete all the work for the day as well as having a good work life balance.
