Lighting is a crucial asset to nearly any aspect of life in our modern world. It is the basis of shape, form, color, and atmosphere in any environment. Well-designed lighting makes for attractive, productive, safe, enjoyable spaces. The subconscious effects of lighting in our daily lives can be much more massive than what meets the eye. I believe my professional calling is to bring out the best in people by creating warm and inviting, yet practical spaces that become the functional centers of their daily lives, via well-composed, useful, and attractive lighting design. I currently attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I am majoring in Architectural Engineering with emphasis in Lighting and Electrical Systems. The Architectural Engineering program has stretched me to develop a well-rounded understanding of the Architecture, Engineering, Design, and Construction industry, the technical details behind the systems that make a building function, and a more deeply-seated passion for the lighting and electrical systems specifically. I have been stretched beyond lighting however, developing a high level of critical thinking, problem solving, and analysis in challenging courses such as Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, HVAC System Design, and Structural Engineering through Steel Design. In addition to my design background, I have a passion for hands-on interaction with lighting and electrical systems: I started my own landscape lighting company over 10 years ago in pursuit of true application of my lighting passion. That company expanded through word-of-mouth referrals to allow me many iterations through the design and installation process, from client acquisition through proposal development, design presentation, estimation, material procurement, full installation, commissioning, and ultimately client satisfaction. I also have experience with building electrical systems, sparked by my time working as an electrician assistant and fueled by continued practice on installation, troubleshooting, and renovation through personal projects. I am currently searching for full-time employment in the lighting industry, with hope for a position that balances creative aesthetic design, analytical solutions engineering, lighting controls design, and hands-on field interaction with lighting and electrical systems. Ultimately, I want to make a difference in people's daily lives, which can start from their regular interactions with the spaces in which they spend their time.
