I work as a website designer and developer. I have 6+ years experience working in many different company environments, from startups to large businesses. I enjoy being able to facilitate all aspects of creating websites, taking a concept from an idea into a finished working product. I graduated with a degree in Design Innovation with a minor in Computer Science from Victoria University in 2013, and have since then been using my skills to assist people in all things web. I’m currently working at Tailgunner, a Digital Agency in Wellington. Design thinking is an important part of the skill set I deploy when creating websites. Initially when investing in a website, you should be thinking through the problems that the site is trying to solve, and what functionalities are essential to facilitate them. My design process involves an initial ideation and discussion period, creating a content plan, then making UX wireframes, brainstorming site aesthetics, and finally putting it all together to create designs that are ready to be implemented by a developer. UX research is a useful tool for informing us how users think about the products we build. I have experience leading usability testing sessions and using the feedback to inform how we display content on a site. I am also a front-end developer, and enjoy using code to create solutions for people to get a final result. I feel very confident in my HTML and CSS skills, and have worked in modern website development environments using a combination of Javascript, React, Node, and Git. I’ve coded my own applications and games and am currently working on expanding my back-end knowledge. In 2024 I launched The Big Five, a side project I’m working on that aims to help people understand their personality using “The Big Five” facet methodology.
