Undergraduate Student Researcher
Mentor: Dr. Scott Monfort, PhDFall 2019 and Early Spring 2020: Supporting agricultural biomechanics projected aimed at collecting data remotely from ranchers and farmers in rural communities across Montana. Using inertial measurement units (IMUs) that are mailed to each participant during peak and off-peak seasons and worn continuously for 3 days at a time before being returned. Early developmental involvement in logistics, sensor programming, and data post processing.Summer 2019: Montana INBRE funding for 10 weeks of research in a biomedical field in a cohort of 40 undergraduate researchers. My research proposal investigates using inertial measurement units (IMUs) to measure gait stability and variability to determine changes in neuromuscular control and ability to respond to disturbances in walking in a population of 50 years and older. In collaboration with the Bozeman Senior Center’s summer hiking program, an 8-week investigation of quantitative gait characteristics in 40 participants over a summer of activity will be performed. We hypothesize that short-term improvements in stability can be seen on level ground walking after the completion of this hiking program.Spring 2018: Proposal in the field of biomechanics received funding from the Undergraduate Scholars Program at Montana State University for the Spring 2018 Semester. This research project consists of the development and investigation of methods of collecting and processing IMU (Inertial measurement unit) sensors in a clinical setting. Assessing non-linear measures of variability and stability of human walking. Data was collected from 25 subjects for 3 sessions per subject to test the between session reliability of sensors. Post processing of data is done in MATLAB.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
Former teaching and lab assistant of Dr. Mike Edens for EGEN 365, introduction to mechatronics course. This course explores the design and application of mechatronic systems using microcontrollers, sensors, mechanical and electrical actuators, and feedback controls. I assist in writing and performing weekly lab sessions, grading, and help sessions. Former teaching assistant for Dr. Shanon Reckinger and Dr. Mike Edens in the EMEC203, Mechanical Engineering computation course. This course is focused on learning the basics of MATLAB in various applications. This position required the assistance of peers during their weekly lab sessions and attendance at weekly TA meetings.

737 Br&T M&Q, Mechanical Engineering Intern
Engineering intern with Boeing Research and Technology, 737 Factory Support in Renton, WA. In this experience I had the opportunity to explore the entire 737 production process from painting, wing assembly, to final assembly. The projects I supported reduced ergonomic risk in the factory setting in worked to decrease overall production time. Projects Worked:- Designing 3D printed, flexible masking aids for the wings- Evaluating, testing, and recommending portable tools (pneumatic nutrunners) for production use- Development of a user friendly MATLAB script to reformat and filter data. Uses rivet interference data trends to help indicate subtle machine changes before coupon failures.- Performed coupon testing to optimize rivet interference patterns based on countersink depth. Aided with testing and qualification of Alodine rivets to remove cap seal process. - Assembled a rivet repair fatigue specimen fixture for HHEMR stations. Use of mill, bandsaw, and hand drilling and tapping for assembly and fit check.- Investigating the use of of temporary fasteners in on spars to replace permanent fasteners that result in part markings when removed. Worked with shop leads to run cycles on fasteners. Explored cleaning methods and future station set up.- Developing a new portable tool for overhead collar swaging in horizontal build. Redesigned collar holder and other small components in Autodesk Inventor. Researched options for pneumatic circuits to simplify tool usability.
Operations Intern
Working as an Operations Intern in the pre-fabrication shop for MacMiller in Tukwila, WA I explored and practiced lean production principals and looked for opportunities to optimize current processes.
