Teach courses and advise students in the department of Mechanical Engineering. Courses include Engineering Graphics, Strength of Materials, Introductory Robotics, Materials Science, Materials Lab, Product Development, and Capstone Design.

Performed a simulation study examining the consequences of model mis-specification, comparing interchangeable and structurally different raters in the context of multi-trait multi-method mediation. Findings were submitted for publication in the journal Structural Equation Modeling.

Conducted research on improving methods of teaching engineering to undergraduate students; specifically, 1) using Model-Eliciting Activities to teach Numerical Methods and Computer Programming for Engineers; 2) using the "Flipped Classroom" through video lectures in conjunction with Model-Eliciting Activities. Work included teaching courses, interacting with students, recording video lectures, analyzing student responses, and synthesizing results. Worked with Dr. Matthew Verleger and Dr. Gilberto Urroz. Conducted research in Latent Variable Analysis with Dr. Christian Geiser. Specifically, multiple-indicator latent growth curve modeling, multi-level latent growth models, multi-level multi-method modeling.

Developed a novel 3-D path planning method for application in wilderness search and rescue with small unmanned aerial vehicles. This approach defines a 3-D flight path based on offsets from terrain contours, and also a corresponding camera observation path along the terrain. The flight path maintains a safe distance from the terrain, and is flyable by a Dubins airplane.

Conducted research in modeling operator response behavior with Gaussian Processes in the context of a multi-objective UAV task assignment problem.

Performed characterization experiments for the integration of geophysical sensors (magnetometers and EM sensors) on robotic and UAV platforms (autonomous helicopters and ground vehicles). Developed a system for persistently monitoring conditions at a remote mine site. System was designed to be serviced once or twice a year, and to measure and transmit parameters of water (pH, DO, conductivity), temperature profiles of the ground, and imagery. All projects were performed by teams of 2-6.
