Meteorologist I
Accessioner
As the accessioner for PPD, I receive, unpack, organize, and enter patient data for 1,000+ medical samples per month into a laboratory inventory system (LIS). I handle customer service issues regarding payment, laboratory questions, ordering, shipping, and other concerns by answering and actively pursuing phone calls alongside emails. In this role I've furthered my office skills to reduce workload stress and make processes more efficient. This includes using Microsoft Power Automate to facilitate repetitive task automation such as form filling and file scanning, reducing time to process from 3 minutes per sample to 1.5-2 minutes per sample. I have also constantly communicated needs and wants to the LIS technical team to solve bugs, facilitate more ergonomic check-in of samples, and minimize data entry tasks to improve the throughput of samples.
Student Intern
Student internship with NWS Atlanta through EAS 4651 Practical Internship course at Georgia Tech.Duties included but were not limited to:- Attending weekly presentations by experienced and talented forecasters, learning exactly how the National Weather Service operates and providing a tailored set of products to all their partners.- Shadowing and training with forecasters on all shifts as they provided public support, long-term, short-term, and aviation forecasts, as well as monitored fire weather conditions and advanced dual polarization doppler radar.- Becoming familiar with the production and delivery of interpretative services like Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS), using the concepts learned to provide tailored products and briefings to core partners that share a common role in public safety during mock scenarios.I also completed research for the NWS during my time with them:- I researched the upcoming technological developments of the National Severe Storms Laboratory’s (NSSL) Warn-on Forecast System (WoFS) high-resolution mesoscale ensemble model and assessed its effectiveness for extreme weather events in Georgia, particularly in High Shear, Low Cape (HSLC) scenarios.- I determined that the National Severe Storms Laboratory’s (NSSL) Warn-on Forecast System (WoFS) can enhance operational forecaster focus for squall line events and provide probabilistic guidance that can be interpreted by a forecaster and disseminated to the public and other core partners.
