For as long as I can remember, math was always my favorite subject. Working with numbers and manipulating equations always gave me great satisfaction. However, when I got further into high school and it came time to look into college majors, none of the more math-focused careers piqued my interest. Instead, it was the point where math and physical application meet: engineering. I also loved to work in teams and always found greater motivation when working towards a common goal with other people, so my first decision was made. After choosing to pursue the path of an engineer, my second decision became clear on one eye-opening trip across the seas. The summer before my junior year of high school, I was fortunate enough to take a vacation to Rome, Italy with my family. When we were touring the Roman Forum and Colosseum, I was amazed at the longevity of the miraculous structures surrounding the area. Upon returning to the states and reflecting on my experiences abroad, I suddenly felt a calling in the field of civilian infrastructure. Civil Engineering was the best fit. In my just over three years of time studying and getting experience in Civil Engineering (CE), I have determined that I could not have made a better choice. My third decision, what I want to specialize in within CE, I am excited to discover through the wide scope of possibilities still left for me to explore. So, in my last two years as an undergraduate, my plan to determine my refined career route is to spend my last summer interning before graduation, and give the utmost effort in my remaining major classes to set myself up for a fruitful and successful career wherever suits me best.
