This diverse role provides a platform through which I have the opportunity to develop my applied microbiological skills within a UKAS accredited lab environment. My responsibilities mainly lie within the pathogen lab and include sub-culturing, plate streaking and media/consumables management. The role requires me to support other departments within the lab, including but not exclusive to media preparation, sample processing and waste management, thus a flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt quickly is essential.

As part of the endotoxin testing team in GSK’s microbiology product testing laboratory, I was responsible for the product endotoxin assays and the monitoring of process water endotoxin levels. The assays conducted are to ensure GMP compliance, with validation and instrument calibration part of the role. Good aseptic technique was crucial to maintain accuracy when carrying out the sensitive LAL assay. I also played a support role within the non-sterile testing lab, with media/consumables stock monitoring and setting up for the following day’s sub-culturing. The role provided exposure to a range of corporate lab management systems including CDMS, WinKQCL (endotoxin analysis), SAP and Sapphire.

My responsibilities within Quantum's specials manufacturing laboratory include the manufacture of customer orders across a range of dosage forms whilst observing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), as per company SOPs. A number of personal competencies are exercised daily in order to meet the company's high quality assurance and accountability standards, including high attention to detail, accurate documentation, consistency and teamwork.

As a member of the counter team I was responsible for food preparation, maintaining a hygienic food preparation environment, stock monitoring/replenishment, cash handling, accurate order taking and input into the till system, and maintaining an exceptional level of customer service. The ability to multi-task, work accurately and flexibly within a team environment were key competencies foe this role.
