Provided an opportunity to apply FEA knowledge to a real world application. Gained knowledge of designing for manufacture for both CNC and manual methods. Took on an additional role managing the whole teams CAD assembly which required good organisational skills and attention to detail. Provided a great amount of experience working with large scale assemblies in SolidWorks.Gained practical metalworking experience using milling machines, lathes and welding as well as CNC manufacturing. I filled a temporary position during sales week, one of the busiest and most stressful time to work at NEXT. I had only a short amount of time to learn new skills as part of a well coordinated team.

I was selected to take part in an extra curriculum research placement sponsored by the Nuffield foundation. Being accepted by Nuffield meant that I was able to take part in a research project that was at a much higher level than my current A level work at the time. My project was based around the asteroid 4-Vesta so required learning some of the fundamental laws of astronomy from scratch, also using new technology such as a 3D printer.
