I am currently in my undergraduate senior year as an Environmental Studies and Philosophy double major. My studies have led me to develop an interest in environmental education as well as curriculum development. I am intent on building a solid foundation for entering the professional world of early childhood education. My experience in the field thus far includes working as an Earth Stewards camp counselor at Hawthorne Valley Farm, located in Ghent, NY. During my time there, I quickly learned ways to constructively engage with kids and facilitate their educational experiences in a manner that enables them to grow significantly in their relationships with their natural environment and with people within it. Finding ways to help kids connect their individual lives to the lessons they learn, and to empathize with others who do so differently, is an exercise I value deeply. I have worked in many different positions relating to customer service, including: Lowe’s Sales Associate; Pop’s Paddle Board and Kayak Rentals Rental Associate; FItlife Foods Retail Wellness Associate; and Chapel Hill Assistant Groundskeeper. These experiences have provided me with the tools to engage with customers, fellow employees, and supervisors effectively and confidently. I have learned to think pensively and ask questions about my working environment so as to be able to take responsibility for my duties with conviction.
