I obtained my BA in History from Oklahoma State University in 2015, in which I focused on Maritime History and European History. I am an alumni (2014) of the Williams College and Mystic Seaport joint interdisciplinary Maritime Program, "Williams-Mystic". Additionally, I am an alumni of the Munson Institute of American Maritime History accredited through the University of Connecticut. While studying in Connecticut, I learned the value of studying any subject through an interdisciplinary lens, and I became interested in the many tools needed by policy makers in order to create regulations that are sensitive to the cultural, economic, and historical values of a community. For a marine policy assignment, I was able to interview key players in the ongoing controversy surrounding increasing regulations of the fishing of cod in the Gulf of Maine- the mayor of Gloucester, MA, scientists involved in New England fisheries management, and fishermen themselves. Through this experience I gained a passion for understanding how policy decisions can and often do leave indelible impacts upon communities like the vulnerable fishing communities in New England.
